White charcoal pencil on textured black paper. Took a picture of it 'cause I was worried about messing up my scanner...
So... This started out as a test piece to help me remember how to use charcoals. Hence the roughness and crookedness of the paper, and the size of the piece (this is pretty tiny, it's about the size of my hand or smaller). I'll be making a larger one later, but this came out so well I thought I'd share it. I kinda like the crookedness of it, actually.
I wanted to do a high contrast charcoal drawing of him in low light, leaning on a table over some kind of light source for drama's sake, receding into the darkness. Sort of like, a brooding evil wizard vibe? Even though he's a complete sweetheart. I thought it would look cool so I did it! I love the hard angles in his face, so I wanted to shine a harsh light on him and try and catch that in charcoal.
More to follow! I forgot how much I love working with charcoal! (It's been, what, oh no! like 7 years since I last did anything with charcoal! Aiiieee!!!)
Thanks for looking!
